Weapon Of Choice is an American IPA brewed in the New England style by Civil Society Brewing Co., and for the purposes of this craft beer review, the ale was served in an IPA glass from a can.

This hazy IPA pours an opaque golden yellow; a color that looks very much like white grapefruit juice. It’s topped by a thick cap of soapy white foam that shows fine retention. A few droplets of lace cling to the glass.

The aroma is initially fragrant with pine but then disappears altogether.

The palate begins with a taste of doughy bread mixed with a mild dose of lemon peel and pine. A mellow note of tropical fruit appears in the middle. And the tasting finishes with a juicy blend of grapefruit, lemon, hints of pine, and a mellow note of peach that’s picked up on the swallow.

Its feel is smooth with a medium body and moderate carbonation. Finishes dryly with a mild astringency.

Its appearance is solid while its aroma lacks persistence but is pleasant enough. Its palate is wonderfully flavored with a mix of citrus and pine. Lots of flavor for a single IPA. It’s dry, mildly bitter, and easily quaffed. Not sure if this would be someone’s Weapon Of Choice, but wouldn’t fault them for making this their beer of choice.

About the American IPA

The American IPA is the most popular craft beer style in the United States. And for good reason, too. When well crafted, its hoppy goodness delivers intense aromas and flavors that can be citrusy and fruity; floral and piney; earthy and herbal. The hops are complemented by a wide range of malts and other ingredients. It’s a popular playground for brewers to express their creativity and a veritable cornucopia for craft beer connoisseurs.
