Voodoo Ranger 8 Hop Pale Ale, an American Pale Ale by New Belgium Brewing Company

Voodoo Ranger 8 Hop Pale Ale is an American Pale Ale brewed by New Belgium Brewing Company, and for the purposes of this craft beer review, this pale was served in a shaker pint glass from a bottle.

Pours a crystal-clear marigold with an inch-thick cap of dense, off-white foam that reduces slowly and abundantly leaves gobs of sticky lacing.

The nose is pleasantly hoppy with floral and piney scents.

The palate is simple and straightforward but lacks depth. Hops present a mild floral taste that’s backed thinly by a pair of malts. A touch of tropical fruit appears in the finish as the beer warms.

Mouthfeel is a lighter than expected—somewhat watery, in fact—with moderate carbonation.

The Voodoo Ranger 8 Hop Pale Ale has a nice appearance and aroma but its taste and feel fall short. Palatable but not really worth your time.

About the American Pale Ale

The American Pale Ale is a hop-forward brew that has less alcohol strength, is less bitter and is more approachable than the American IPA. Its clean and balanced palate makes use of New World or American hop varietals. Prior to the explosion of the American IPA, the American Pale Ale was the most popular craft beer style in the United States.
