American Blonde Ale Funky Buddha Brewery

Sticky Treats, an American Blonde Ale by Funky Buddha Brewery

Sticky Treats is an American Blonde Ale brewed by Funky Buddha Brewery, and for the purposes of this craft beer review, the ale was served in a pilsener glass from a bottle.

Expected for the style, the blonde ale pours a clear gold. It’s capped by an inch-thick cap of bubbly, white froth that offers modest retention. As the head recedes, a soapy ring of residue clings to the glass.

The aroma is sugary sweet with vanilla and backed by a touch of grain.

The palate is predominantly sweet with vanilla and sugar, blended with malted rice. As expected, bitterness is subdued with only a light hopping appearing in the background. Finishes with a lingering sweetness of vanilla and malt that sticks to the back of the tongue.

Mouthfeel is relatively smooth with its medium-light body and less-than-moderate carbonation.

Sticky Treats tastes like a Rice Krispies treat (in fact, the beer was formerly named Rice Krispies Ale), and as such, is a sugary take on a blonde ale. Likely too sweet for some, it does make for a pleasant refresher in the summer heat.

About the American Blonde Ale

The American Blonde Ale is often the least complicated style offered by a brewery. As such, it’s easy to drink and approachable. It’s a refreshing brew with a clean palate that lacks any harsh or challenging flavors. It’s a preferred offering by many smaller breweries that don’t produce lagers.
