Space Puppies is an American Double IPA brewed in the New England style by Civil Society Brewing Co., and for the purposes of this craft beer review, the ale was served in an IPA glass from a can.
Space Puppies pours a murky goldenrod and topped by a stack of puffy white foam that shows fine retention. The reduction leaves behind chunks of lace down to a soapy collar.
The aroma is a lovely blend of melon, honeydew, and cantaloupe; backed by a piney and floral scent.
The palate begins with doughy bread and shifts to a bite of citrus before transitioning to a dry, tart, and somewhat acidic with a squeeze of lemon juice. A dank note of tangy pine appears and then is mellowed by sweet pineapple.
Mouthfeel is tangy with a body a little over medium and moderate carbonation.
Admittedly, this brew has sat in my fridge for a couple of weeks and perhaps isn’t as fresh as it could be but it’s still thoroughly enjoyable. The blend of sweet tropical fruits, tart citrus, and dank pine are superb. Easy to guzzle in spite of a high ABV. Like so many of Civil Society’s brews, you’ll love it from the first sip.
