Smuttlabs Daily Brett is a Belgian-style Saison brewed by Smuttynose Brewing Company, and for the purposes of this craft beer review, was served in a tulip glass from a bottle.
The Saison pours a cloudy marigold and is topped by an inch-thick cap of white foam. The head reduces slowly and leaves behind some lacing.
Funky aroma of Brettanomyces yeast dominates the nose; backed mildly by lemon and spice.
The palate features grassy hops, yeast, and clove. Finishes dryly with tart lemon.
Its feel is crisp and effervescent with a light body and abundant carbonation.
For a beer touting its use of Brett yeast, its presence in the Smuttlabs Daily Brett is underwhelming. The other flavors don’t particularly shine, either. As a saison, this brew is palatable but not one that excels.
