Samuel Adams Amber Bock is a German-style Bock brewed by the Boston Beer Company, and for the purposes of this craft beer review, the lager was served in a pilsener glass from a bottle.

The lager pours a crystal-clear honey orange and is topped by an inch-thick cap of dense cream-colored foam that shows good retention. A spittle of lace clings to the sides and a thin collar rounds the glass.

The aroma is predominantly malty with a sweet scent of caramel. A hint of noble hops appears in the background.

The palate begins with a balance of toasted bread and floral hops. Crests to a fuller and sweeter taste of caramel backed by a suggestion of hops.

Its feel is relatively smooth with a medium body and moderate carbonation. Finishes slightly dry and a little sticky on the backend.

Appearance is adequate and its feel is a bit sticky but otherwise fine. The aroma and palate lean malty as expected but come off heavy-handed with their use of caramel. Part of a variety pack, the Samuel Adams Amber Bock won’t inspire a purchase but it’s not too bad, either.
