Resin, an American Double IPA by Sixpoint Brewery

Resin is an American Double IPA by Sixpoint Brewery, and for the purposes of this craft beer review, the ale was served in an IPA glass from a can.

Appearance

The DIPA pours a clear, rust orange and is topped by a very thick head of bone-white foam. The pillowy cap takes its time while dissolving, leaving behind patches of sticky lace.

Aroma

The aroma is faint with a scent of piney hops.

Flavor

The palate follows the nose and immediately strikes hard with an intense blast of pine and hop resin. But a malty backbone of sweet tropical fruit and caramel add just enough balance before this hop bomb finishes with bitter grapefruit and peppery hops.

Mouthfeel

Its feel has a medium body and moderate carbonation. Finishes dryly.

Overall

Clocking in at 100-plus IBUs, Resin has plenty of bite for thirsty hopheads to enjoy. Connoisseurs will also appreciate the beer’s gentle balance just how effectively its lofty 9.1% ABV is masked. So be careful with this one. But enjoy!

About the American Double IPA

Also known as an Imperial IPA, the American Double IPA is a stronger and higher hopped version of the American IPA. The style originated in the 1990s when craft breweries wanted to provide a more intense offering to hopheads. The DIPA has more hop bitterness than Strong Ales and Barleywines but has less alcohol.
