Oatmeal Stout is an English-style Oatmeal Stout brewed by Breckenridge Brewery, and for the purposes of this craft beer review, the ale was served in a tulip pint glass from a bottle.

Pours an opaque black with a thick, cream-colored head that reduces slowly. Patches of lace remain on the glass.

Warming aroma consists of roast malt, smoke, and coffee.

The palate opens with roasted barley; adding a mild sweetness of toffee and chocolate before finishing dryly with a lingering bite of piney hops.

Smooth mouthfeel features a medium body with low carbonation.

The Oatmeal Stout is surprisingly hoppy for the style but it’s still an enjoyable brew.

About the Oatmeal Stout

The Oatmeal Stout is very dark, full-bodied, roasty, malty ale with a complementary oatmeal flavor. The sweetness, balance, and oatmeal impression can vary considerably. Historically, the use of oatmeal in stouts originated in the 1800s, and were marketed as being “healty” beers. The Oatmeal Stout was popular in England between the two World Wars and the style was revived during the modern craft beer era.
