Mocha Porter is an American Porter brewed by Rogue Ales, and for the purposes of this craft beer review, the ale was served in a mug from a bottle.
The Porter pours a mahogany hue and is topped by a finger-thick cap of dense mocha-colored foam that shows fair retention. The reduction leaves behind some sticky lace and a thin ring that rounds the glass.
The aroma is balanced with sweet dark chocolate, coffee roast, and backed by grain.
The palate follows the nose with sweet flavors of chocolate and caramel balanced by coffee roast, and nut.
Its feel is smooth with a medium-full body and moderate carbonation. Finishes with a mild astringency.
Its appearance could be better and its feel is a little thick for the style. But the aroma and palate are superb with their lovely balance between the sweet and roast. No matter the time of year, the Mocha Porter is a fantastic brew.
