Merry Monks is a Belgian-style Tripel brewed by Weyerbacher Brewing Co., and for the purposes of this review, the ale was served in a snifter from bottle.
Pours a hazy orange with a half-inch cap of white foam that dissipates rapidly and leaves no lacing.
The aroma is pleasant with a scent of banana and spices.
The palate is fruity with pear, banana, and spiced with clove and pepper. Its finish is somewhat syrupy with a taste of booze.
Effervescent mouthfeel features ample carbonation and is somewhat fuller body than expected. Finishes dryly.
The Belgian yeast is used nicely in the Merry Monks but the alcohol is overly aggressive.
Weyerbacher recommends the following food pairings with their Merry Monks: poultry, fish, shellfish, paella, vegetable and light pasta dishes.
