LocAle, an American Blonde Ale by SaltWater Brewery

LocAle is an American Blonde Ale brewed by SaltWater Brewery, and for the purposes of this craft beer review, the ale was served in a pilsener glass from a can.

The ale pours a clear golden whose clarity becomes lightly cloudy as it settles. It’s topped by a thick cap of dense white foam that shows modest retention. A smattering of lace clings to the sides. Ample effervescence is visible in the glass.

The aroma is faint with a tart note of lemon and sweet grain.

The palate begins with a taste of bready malt that turns decidedly tart with a squeeze of lemon juice. A backbone of biscuit ties the palate together.

The body is light with moderately-high carbonation. Finishes astringently.

LocAle is light and refreshing. Its tartness isn’t typical for the style but isn’t overpowering. And adds to its refreshment.

About the American Blonde Ale

The American Blonde Ale is often the least complicated style offered by a brewery. As such, it’s easy to drink and approachable. It’s a refreshing brew with a clean palate that lacks any harsh or challenging flavors. It’s a preferred offering by many smaller breweries that don’t produce lagers.
