Hyperbolic is an American Double IPA brewed by Coppertail Brewing Co., and for the purposes of this craft beer review, the ale was served in an IPA glass from a bottle.

Appearance

Pours a cloudy, golden-orange with an inch-thick cap of soapy white foam that bubbles away gently. A spittle of lace coats the glass.

Aroma

Tropical fruits dominate an aroma backed by a scent of pine.

Flavor

A sharp bite of lemon strikes the palate at the onset, receding to sweeter flavors of pineapple and mango before abruptly finishing with a dry bite of piney hops.

Mouthfeel

Mouthfeel is crisp with a medium body and ample carbonation.

Overall

The Hyperbolic is oh so easy to crush, in spite of its 8.0% ABV. Though more balance would be preferred, hopheads will certainly appreciate the bite of this brew. Otherwise, the flavors of this DIPA are really good.

About the American Double IPA

Also known as an Imperial IPA, the American Double IPA is a stronger and higher hopped version of the American IPA. The style originated in the 1990s when craft breweries wanted to provide a more intense offering to hopheads. The DIPA has more hop bitterness than Strong Ales and Barleywines but has less alcohol.
