Holiday Haze IPA is an American IPA brewed in the New England style by Sierra Nevada Brewing Co., and for the purposes of this craft beer review, the ale was served in an IPA glass from a bottle.

Appearance

The ale pours a cloudy lemon yellow and is topped by a thick cap of bubbly white foam that shows fine retention. Effervescence is visible in the glass.

Aroma

The aroma is slight but pleasant with soft notes of citrus and pine; backed by yeast and grain.

Flavor

Tasting begins with tart lemon that’s sweetened with pineapple and tangerine. The palate crests to a bite of piney and citrus hops that’s warmed by pepper and a flash of booze. The finish blends more lemon and tropical fruit with the former lingering on the back of the tongue. Doughy bread and a hint of dank pine tie the palate together.

Mouthfeel

Its feel is smooth and crisp with a medium body and a shade over medium carbonation. Has a prickly feel on the front that flattens out to a creamy finish that’s somewhat dry and slightly astringent. There’s a very mild warming sensation from the spices and alcohol.

Overall

Holiday Haze may not be the best representation of a New England style IPA but it’s still a tasty brew. Its appearance and aroma are fine. Its feel isn’t quite on par but that doesn’t negatively impact the drinking experience. Citrus dominates a palate that doesn’t have the depth of some hazy IPAs, but it’s still enjoyable. Holiday Haze is as refreshing as it is easy drinking.
