Furious is an American IPA brewed by Surly Brewing Co., and for the purposes of this craft beer review, the ale was served in an IPA glass from a can.
Pours a hazy rust amber capped by a pillowy head of cream-colored foam that shows excellent retention. A smattering of lace coats the glass as the head recedes.
The aroma is blissfully hoppy with notes of citrus and pine and it’s backed by a soft scent of doughy bread.
A quintet of hops powers the palate and batter the tongue with citrus. That bitter taste yields to a malty backbone of tropical fruit and chewy bread. A juicy bite of grapefruit follows and finishes with mellow pine and a lingering caramel sweetness.
Its feel has a medium body and ample carbonation.
Furious ticks all the boxes expected for an American IPA. Surly’s brew delivers hoppy goodness in its aroma and taste while also being wonderfully balanced. Furious is as about as good as it gets in an IPA and it’s well worth trying.
