Curse Of The Irish Red is an Irish-style Red Ale brewed by Due South Brewing Co., and for the purposes of this craft beer review, the ale was served in a shaker pint glass from a can.

Appearance

The ale pours a crystal-clear ruby red and is topped by an inch-thick cap of frothy cream-colored foam. The head shows fair retention and its reduction leaves behind a few streaks of residue.

Aroma

The aroma is quite faint after pouring but as the beer warms, a scent of lightly burnt bread, browned butter, nut, and floral hops appear.

Flavor

The palate begins with a taste of roast malt that recedes to a base of a base of toasted bread with a hint of caramel. Finishes with a mild bite of pine and grassy hops.

Mouthfeel

Its feel is relatively smooth with a medium body and moderate carbonation. Finishes dry and slightly astringent.

Overall

When it does arrive, the aroma is nice. Appearance is good for the style. Initially, the palate is quite hoppy but strikes a better balance once the beer warms. Even so, the Curse of the Irish Red is a little too bitter for the style. However, this Red still tastes pretty darn good.
