Cervisia Mozzo is an American-style Amber Ale brewed by Cervisia, and for the purposes of this craft beer review, the ale was served in a shaker pint glass from a bottle.
The ale pours a rust color that’s mostly cloudy and is topped by an inch-thick cap of loose off-white foam that shows modest retention. Soapy residue gathers at the collar during the reduction.
Its aroma initially smells vinous but as the beer warms, it takes on a more appropriate scent of caramel and malt.
The palate begins with a taste of soft baked bread that rises quickly to a bite of floral and piney hops, orange peel, and then follows with a mild dose of herbal hops that lingers briefly. Toasted bread and light caramel flavors tie the palate together.
Its feel is smooth and somewhat dry with a medium-light body and a little less-than-moderate carbonation.
The aroma for the Cervisia Mozzo is different but not unpleasant. Its appearance is fine but the feel could use more body. Its palate could use more hops or an earthy character to round out the palate. But even if it is too malty, the ale does have a nice flavor. Cervisia Mozzo may not be perfect, but if you’re in Italy, and looking for a balanced brew, this is an acceptable option.
