Black Butte Porter is an American Porter brewed by Deschutes Brewery, and for the purposes of this craft beer review, the ale was served in a tulip pint glass from a bottle.
The ale pours black and is topped by a thick cap of tan foam that reduces slowly. The reduction leaves a smattering of lace on the glass.
The aromatics are pleasant with a scent of dark chocolate and roast malt.
The palate follows the nose with flavors of chocolate, roast, and coffee meeting a mild hop bite.
Its body is smooth and creamy with a medium body and low carbonation.
The Black Butte Porter is thoroughly enjoyable and an excellent representation of the style. Not so surprising that it’s won so many awards.
